BIOGRAPHY
Zeñel is made up of London based trumpeter and producer Laurence Wilkins, Portuguese native Zoe Pascal on drums, and keyboard virtuosos Jay Verma and Alex Wilson sporting a seemingly infinite array of patches. They utilise a unique approach to midi and computer-based sound design to deliver a poetic combination of Jazz improvisation crossed with the world of electronic music, drawing from sounds seldom heard in live band contexts, inspired by cultural heritage of the electronic music, from the UK and globally. Their unusual and unique use of sounds has already gained attention, receiving radio play from BBC Radio 3 and Worldwide FM, and also having graced the stages of Ronnie Scott’s (supporting Ghost note), Love Supreme Festival, Jazz Re:freshed, La Petite Halle in Paris and many, many more. They released their first EP, Extreme Sports, in March 2020. Since then they have recorded more music and have been involved in the Brownswood-affiliated Future Bubblers programme.
